The Cook County School District 130 Board of Education is composed of seven members who are elected by voters within the district's boundaries. Elections are held in odd-numbered years in the spring. Board members serve four-year terms.

 

School Board Elections

The next consolidated election will be held on April 4, 2023.

Prospective school board candidates may visit the Illinois State Board of Elections website at www.elections.il.gov for information regarding School Board Elections.

In accordance with changes to the Election Code in 2014 (10 ILCS 5/1-1 et seq.), prospective school board candidates will no longer file nominating petitions with the school district. Petitions must be filed with the Cook County Clerk's Office. Please contact The Cook County Clerk's Office at (312) 603-1127 for further election-related information.

Meeting Calendar

The Cook County School District 130 Board of Education meets at 6:30 p.m. on the third Thursday of every month. Meetings are held alternately either in Blue Island at Veterans Memorial Middle School or in Crestwood at the Eisenhower Cooperative.

Contacting the Board

The Board of Education welcomes communications from the community. Staff members, parents and community members should submit questions or communications for the Board of Education’s consideration to the Superintendent. The Superintendent shall provide the Board with a summary of these questions or communications and provide, as appropriate, his or her feedback regarding the matter. (Policy 2:140)

Board Member Training

All Illinois school board members must receive training in professional development leadership (P.A. 97-8) and the Open Meetings Act (P.A. 97-504). Mandatory training will also be required after new teacher evaluation requirements are implemented in each school district. For additional information, see Board policy 2:120, Board Member Development.

The following table contains mandatory training and development activities that were completed by each Board member. When the training was provided by the Illinois Association of School Boards, an authorized provider, the acronym “IASB” follows the listed activity.

The Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB) is a voluntary organization of local boards of education dedicated to strengthening the Illinois public schools through local citizen control. Although not a part of State government, IASB is organized by member school boards as a private not-for-profit corporation under authority granted by Article 23 of the School Code. The mission of the IASB is excellence in local school governance in support of quality public education.
