Whittier School
Welcome to Whittier Intermediate School!
As one of the oldest schools in the district, built in 1925, Whittier Intermediate School stands with rich history and unique presence. Located on the corner of Maple Avenue and Vermont Street in Blue Island, Whittier serves 4th and 5th grade students with a variety of programs available. We strive to provide the appropriate support for our students during their two year stay at Whittier and our staff is fully committed to ensure that every student’s educational needs are met.
Students at Whittier Intermediate School have access to programs such as:
1. Gifted Programs
2. Bilingual Program
3. Dual Language Program
4. D.A.R.E. Program*
5. Band*
6. Student Council*
We also are very conscious of the importance of developing responsible and respectful young men and women in our school and are committed to continuing with our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program. Students learn to be safe, respectful and responsible throughout the day and within every area of the school as these are character traits we want to instill in our students for them to keep as they mature into adulthood.
As we enter into this 2011-2012 school year, we enter with a very focused determination to make changes and adjustments in order for Whittier Intermediate School to become a more successful and accomplished school! This year marks the planning and implementation of the restructuring phase under No Child Left Behind (NCLB) and our plan is to move with complete passion and commitment for the purpose of bringing our students to the next level!
Please join us in our effort as we evolve into one of the best schools in the district!
Thank you!
