Principal's Message

Welcome to the 2011-2012 school year. On behalf of the administration and faculty at Veterans Memorial Middle School I would like to welcome you to an exciting 2011-2012 school year. I look forward to working with you and your child.

At Veterans Memorial Middle School our goal is to provide a safe, caring, academically sound learning environment for our children. The administration at Veterans Memorial is proud of our faculty’s commitment to high academic and behavioral expectations for our children. Our staff is devoted to provide continuous improvement in your child’s learning process.

My educational background includes graduating from District 218 H.L. Richards High School in Oak Lawn. I received my undergraduate degree in Education from St. Xavier University while competing in softball on scholarship. I earned my first Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from National Louis University. I completed my second Master’s degree in Educational Administration at Governor’s State University.

I have spent the past 12 years in School District 130 as a middle school math and science teacher. My experience in District 130 has included working with 6^th, 7^th, and 8^th grade students. I have worked as a summer school principal in our school district before stepping into the Assistant Principal position at Veterans Memorial Middle School.

I would like to extend a warm welcome to join our PTO if you have the time. We are looking for parents like you to help raise funds for our young adolescents. Please call our office if you would like to participate.

During my time here, I have been a strong advocate for both students and staff. I will provide the optimal conditions for students to grow and learn. I believe it takes the school, parents, and the child to ensure a successful school year. I will be overseeing curriculum, testing, and basic building functions throughout the year.

Bienvenidos al año Escolar 2011-2012. De parte de la administración y personal de la Escuela Veterans Memorial Middle quiero darles la bienvenida a un nuevo y emocionante año. Será un placer trabajar con usted y su hijo/a.

Nuestro objetivo en la Escuela Veterans Memorial es proveer un ambiente seguro y apropiado al nivel académico de los estudiantes. La administración de Veterans Memorial tiene altas expectativas académicas para nuestros estudiantes al igual que esperamos un excelente comportamiento de su parte. Nuestro personal estará dedicado a ayudar a que el nivel académico de sus estudiantes mejore continuamente.

Yo me gradúe del Distrito 218 de la Escuela H.L. Richards en Oak Lawn. Recibí mi grado de estudiante universitario en educación de la Universidad St. Xavier mientras tenia mi beca de béisbol. Recibí mi primer diploma de la Universidad National Louis en Curriculum e Instrucción. Y complete mi segundo diploma en la Universidad de Governer’s State en las áreas de Administración Educativa.

Los últimos 12 años los e pasado en el Distrito 130 como maestra de matemáticas y de ciencia. E trabajado con estudiantes de sexto, séptimo y octavo grado. También e trabajado como directora durante la escuela de verano antes de tomar la posición de directora en la Escuela Veterans Memorial.

Quisiera también invitarlos a que sean parte de nuestro PTO si tienen tiempo. Estamos buscando a padres que quieran ayudarnos a juntar fondos para nuestros adolescentes. Por favor, llamen ala oficina si están interesados y les gustaría participar.

Durante mi tiempo aquí e sido una gran asesora con los estudiantes y nuestro personal. Siempre les daré condiciones optimas a los estudiantes para crecer y aprender. Yo creo que para asegurar un buen año escolar la escuela, padres y estudiantes deben poner de su parte. Yo estaré observando el curriculum, los exámenes, y el funcionamiento básico del edificio durante todo el año.

Hello,

I am Mr. Nevarez the new assistant principal at Veterans Memorial Middle School. I have been the Spanish teacher for the past two years. My main responsibilities will include supervision, PBIS, school events, and discipline. My main goal is to make the school year enjoyable and productive for everyone. I was raised with the idea that for every action there is a rewarding or disciplinary consequence, which is the idea that has guided my discipline philosophy. My hope is that that every student’s actions and reactions are positive and rewarded through PBIS.
