Social Science ExpoPeer Leaders
Peer Leaders are students who are role models to other students. Students, in this program, maintain exemplar behavior to other students. They apply to be in this program after being recommended by their teachers. After training, these students’ main responsibility is to conduct peer mediations. Peer Mediation is a way for students who are having conflict to be face-to-face to talk out their problem. Peer leaders guide students through this problem-solving process supervised by Ms. Peterson. Any student or teacher can request peer mediation for students in conflict. The purpose of the program is to give students the opportunity to be responsible to solve their problem with another student in a respectful and effective way. Peer Leaders are also expected to volunteer in assigned tasks and activities at school (i.e. working at our Rummage Sale).

School ImprovementGirls on the Run
Chess ClubGirls on the Run is National program that combines training for a 3.1 mile running event with self-esteem enhancing, uplifting workouts. The goals of the programs are to encourage positive emotional, social, mental, spiritual and physical development. This 12-week character building after-school program provides experiential learning through running. Participants learn very specific and well-defined social and personal skills. The program culminates in a non-competitive 5K run event which gives the girls a chance to shine and an overwhelming sense of accomplishment. In the Chicago-land area, there are sessions during the fall and spring. We participate in both sessions. Our coaches are volunteers of teachers, school staff and parents, who complete the training program. This is our second year of running the program at our school.
