Letter from the Principal
Dear Parents/Guardians,
At Nathan Hale Middle School, our goal is to create a challenging, caring, comfortable and enthusiastic learning environment for your child. It is our intention to promote and develop the academic and social skills of our students as we prepare them to become life long learners.
FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL
- Each student will report to their homeroom teacher on the first day of school, which is August 24, 2011.
- Students will be issued a class schedule.
- All students will be given an assignment notebook to keep track of daily assignments and homework.
- Textbooks for each class will be distributed. Students are responsible for all books issued to them.
- Lockers will be issued to your child by their homeroom teacher.
- Students will be permitted to go to their lockers before school, before lunch, and after school.
ATTENDANCE
- Regular school attendance is important to your child’s success at Hale Middle. Please contact the school office between 7:30 - 8:00 a.m. if your child will be absent.
- School will open at 7:50 a.m. and students must report to homeroom by 8:00 a.m.
- Students who arrive after 8:00 must report to the tardy desk for a pass and will be marked tardy.
- Students with excessive tardies will be subject to disciplinary action.
- Students will be dismissed at 2:30 p.m.
ID & UNIFORM POLICY
- Students are required to wear an ID every day.
- Replacement IDs are available for $5.00.
- Failure to wear an ID will result in disciplinary action.
- The District has adopted a revised uniform policy; all students are expected to follow the policy.
- Students who violate the uniform policy will be disciplined.
CURRICULUM
- Students will take full year courses in Math, Science, Language Arts, Social Studies and P.E.
- Students who qualify are eligible to take a full year of Spanish.
- Students who do not take Spanish will be enrolled in a Skill Building class.
- Students will also have nine weeks of Music, Art, Family and Consumer Science and Industrial Technology.
- Please review the promotion criteria found in the school calendar.
- Each class period will be 43 minutes long.
COMMUNICATION
- Please visit our school website frequently to keep informed of events, education resources, daily homework, and teacher schedules.
- Parents can check their child’s progress and assignments on-line by visiting the PowerSchool Parent Portal at the District’s website. The address is www.district130.org
- It is important to contact your child’s teacher(s) via phone or email if you have questions or concerns.
- A quarterly newsletter will be sent home with students and will also be available online.
- Administration will utilize the Connect-ED phone messaging system to keep parents informed of important dates and events.
