Greenwood School
Greetings from the Greenwood Geckos!! (EN ESPANOL)
Kindergarten is a foundational grade within the educational career of all students. During this critical year, students learn or enhance the many basic skills that are required to become life-long learners. This is also where students understand the importance of exploring the use of letters, words, numbers, language usage, as well as social and emotional learning to become well prepared students of District 130.
Here at Greenwood School, our staff understands these important critical components to student learning and work together to expose our students to the best experiences in order to create that strong and secure foundation.
Our four Kindergarten classrooms vary in delivery of language instruction yet meet all of the needs of our students required by the state of Illinois. We have two Dual Language classrooms where students identified as Bilingual/Spanish students receive instruction in their native language and learn English as a second language while monolingual English speaking students in the same class are being instructed in English and learn Spanish as a second language. Both groups of students serve as excellent models for each other and are managed carefully by the classroom teacher to ensure that the appropriate amount of language instruction is delivered. We also have one traditional all English classroom solely instructed in English and one Bilingual classroom where all students in the class are instructed in Spanish and students learn English as a second language.
At the end of each school year we celebrate the successes of our Kindergarteners and proudly send them on to Paul Revere Primary School for first grade to continue their learning.
We welcome all guests to stop by and visit our school at any time of the year to experience the world of our Greenwood Geckos!!!
