About: Lynne Arendziak is the board's longest-serving member and was a teacher in District 130 for 34 years. She is a lifelong resident of Blue Island.
Why She Serves on the District 130 Board: "To help in keeping the standards of the district high so that the children can get the best educators."

About: Grace Bell is an assistant production manager, and attended Moraine Valley Community College. Her children and grandchildren attended District 130, and her grandfather was one of the district's first board members. She was born and raised in Blue Island, and currently resides in Alsip.
Why She Serves on the District 130 Board: "I was interested in supporting my community, and really want to work to better the lives of children."

About: Tomas Almazan is a longtime resident of Blue Island who holds a bachelor's degree in Spanish from Northern Illinois University. He currently works for AT&T as a financial analyst, and serves as a coach and coordinator for the Blue Island Park District's youth soccer program.
Why He Serves on the District 130 Board: "My candidacy to serve as a board member is driven by my utmost commitment to our children and community. I was raised to be involved in my community, and now I want to show the next generation the meaning of public service. I believe part of a public servant’s duty is to keep its community informed. Together we can put the children and community first."

Denia Coatney

About: Denia Coatney is a Manufacturing Engineer for Caterpillar Inc. She holds an M.S. degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering from The Ohio State University and a B.A. degree in Manufacturing Engineering from Central State University. She plays an active role in her church, Mt. Calvary Church of God Holiness in Chicago. She also has a passion for volunteering in the community in various programs, such as First Robotics and Junior Achievement. She and her husband Rodney, along with their two children, reside in Crestwood.
Why She Serves on the District 130 Board: "I am vested in the education of my children and the community as a whole. I am a firm believer that it takes a united effort from teachers, parents, board members, administrators, students and community stakeholders to enhance the education of our children in the district. I contend that education is the foundation of our youth and if everyone is collaboratively working together, there is no limit to the students’ success."

Nicole Rodriguez

About: Nicole Rodriguez is a Crestwood resident who holds a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Saint Xavier University. She worked for several years as a junior high math teacher, and is currently pursuing a master's degree in social work from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Why He Serves on the District 130 Board: "I have a strong passion for working with children in the public school systems. I am an agent of change and want to use my skills to implement change."

Velda Wright, Ed.D.

About: Dr. Velda Wright is an associate professor of education at Lewis University, and holds a doctorate in curriculum and instruction. She also works as an education consultant and pastor, and operates a soup kitchen. She resides in Blue Island.
Why She Serves on the District 130 Board: "I feel that I can contribute to enhancing our schools while also advocating for children and educators. My passion is to promote quality programs for students as I am vested in the community and education."

The Board of Education welcomes communications from the community. Staff members, parents and community members should submit questions or communications for the Board of Education’s consideration to the Superintendent. The Superintendent shall provide the Board with a summary of these questions or communications and provide, as appropriate, his or her feedback regarding the matter. (Policy 2:140)
